Hans Schneider, mathematician in the United States, is a James Joseph Sylvester Emeritus Professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He was the first president of International Linear Algebra Society ILAS (1987 – 1996). He received his Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh in 1952, his advisor was Alexander Craig Aitken. Hans Schneider is an Editor-in-Chief of Linear Algebra and Its Applications (LAA), and an Advisory Editor of Electronic Journal of Linear Algebra (ELA).
